We settle ourselves into holiday mode and try to get over the jet lag with as much of a lie-in as we can manage; till about 9am I think! We’d been invited to Vic’s for a coffee, so we head over there and meet little Thomas and Violet for the first time. After coffee and a catch-up we head back to Tom and Lel’s to watch the Holland/Brazil World Cup match. They have a PVR, which means they were able to record the match in HD from cable and allows us to fast-forward the rather terrible punditry and adverts. An afternoon of lazing around and splashing about in the pool ensues, before then settling down for Uruguay vs. Ghana. Scotty has Uruguay in the sweepstake at work, so is ecstatic at their win (even if the handball save was completely un-sportsman-like).
In the evening, after another fantastic home-cooked meal, we get onto the computer to plan some of our time. With the Rodeo in town we feel it would be criminal to miss this opportunity to see one, so we book tickets online for the following night. We also spend a frighteningly long time comparing prices for car hire and hotels in San Francisco, which we plan to visit the following week. However, Expedia comes up trumps and, with Ceese’s knowledge of the city, we find a good hotel in a prime part of town for a reasonable price. Regarding the car hire, it turns out cheapest to hire the car for almost the entire of our stay, rather than fits and spurts of a couple of days at a time, and so plan to collect it on Tuesday 6th straight before driving it to San Francisco.
