Blog silence about to be broken

Sorry that the blog has been inactive the past few months - we have had our hands full with little miss Leila!
We are trying to catch up with a few posts about how each month has gone (can't believe we are on to month 4 already!) And to upload some pics (which we need to arrange extra storage for because we have so many).  Hopefully though now that we have found a blogging app for our new android tablet a.k.a the jobbie, we will start posting a bit more regularly!

Leila's third month

Overall this month has been the month of poop and of time together - as we had two and a half weeks of holiday over Christmas which was lovely.

Loves
Leila loves smiling, and her small smiles have become big grins and wide smiles! Leila will smile at us when we make silly noises and play with her.  She also smiles when Scott comes home from work.
Leila has started gurgling and cooing which she will do when she is in the mood for playing (and smiling).
She has found her fist this month and loves eating it!  This has made us think that she is starting to teeth (incredibly early) but the doc reassures us that she is not.  She does produce a lot of drool to go with the hand sucking that she does and so we are constantly wiping her chin.
With her little smiles and 'talking' we think that she loves being a cheeky peek - which means that she loves giggling or smiling at us when she is meant to be doing something else - like being tired and sleepy during a mid-night nappy change she will decide she wants to smile!!

Hates
Pooping is not fun for Leila right now. Sometimes she has to strain to get it out and although she doesn't seem in discomfort by the daily colour change, it can't be fun for her.
She doesn't really like the medicine that we have had to give her this month - it smells and can be tasted in the milk which has effected her interest in eating some times.
Leila has gone through phases this month of not liking the bottle (which I talk about in 'Eating' below).

New this month
We have been on "holiday" twice this month. The Christmas break meant we had time for two short breaks; one in Fayoum with the P's and one by ourselves at Mena House by the pyramids. We learnt a fair bit about what to take and what not to bother with (toys, lots of nappies and sun hat are musts, but already expressed milk is a no no!)

Eating
Leila has been going through a few fussy phases this month, especially towards the end of the month.  Her fussiness is that she will be 'bobby' but then won't latch properly or will keep coming off and therefore only feeding on one side.
The bottle had been going well, but we had a set back when we were on holiday (!Holiday!)  On our first trip away we fed her off-milk :-( which left her being fussy with the bottle for a while and refusing it. The lesson we learnt was that a mini-bar fridge in a hotel is not as good as our fridge at home!  Her refusing the bottle has been very difficult for us emotionally, but it has also been difficult because we needed to give her medicine in her milk and by refusing the bottle it meant she wasn't getting her medicine.

Sleeping
We have started a bedtime routine - previously we had been feeding her until she fell asleep which normally happened around 9pm. This was really hard for us because we had to try and eat ourselves while she was awake, or nearly asleep, and we also had no time for ourselves. The new routine means that I feed her in the living room for a nice long feed and then we have a bath, a cuddle and a final feed in the bedroom - along with a book and some songs (or humming). Leila will fall asleep during this final feed around 8pm now and I will then transfer her to the moses basket.
The problems with this are that I have to do the final feed as she won't fall asleep on the bottle, and sometimes I end up feeding on my side in bed to get her off.
We still find that Scotty needs to sleep in spare room some nights so that he's not woken up in the night when he has work the next morning.
Leila is nearly getting a bit too large for the moses basket so we're trying to decide what to do as we still want to co-sleep.  We spend a while thinking about whether to move her cot into our room or move her in to her own room now. At the end of this month we moved her into her own room in her moses basket with me sleeping part of the night in there with her.  Our plan is that after getting her used to a new room we'll then shift her into the cot rather than the basket.

Playing
Leila's play has really changed this month as it has been proper 'batting' when she is on her play mat to batting with intention and starting towards grabbing with intention!
She really enjoys grabbing and pulling toys to her mouth.  The travel play arch has been really useful when we've been away as she can still have toys 'dangling' for her to play with.
She is gradually getting more pricise with her fingers and sometimes showing real concentration when she is after a certain toy.
Leila still loves her Princess Crinkle but she has had a few new toys for Christmas so maybe they will make the list soon!
She is enjoying small amounts of tummy time.  We haven't done much tummy time before as she sleeps on her tum at night, but now we have a new large play mat from GrannyP that will be perfect for tummy play time! When on her tum she is working hard and she is able to get head up and push up on arms, but 'tummy time' often turns in to 'rub face in drool time'!
Leila is happy in bouncer now and has worked out that if she slouches (!) she can hit the rattles with her arms and feet.

Health
Poop has been the topic of the month - every day we talk about the colour and consistency! It pretty much started as she hit three months with it being runnier and without bits and then gradually the colour changed too and then the frequency.  We've been driving ourselves slightly loopy trying to differentiate from one day to the next.  It definitely was diarrhoea for a while we think, but it's hard to tell what the definition of newborn "normal" poop is. We were prescribed some stuff by the docs (a 'good bacteria' which we dissolve in her milk called Lacteol Fort) which did help reduce the frequency, but as we had to give it to her in a bottle with her milk she soon started to go off the idea of a bottle. After the course the colour improved, but it is still a bit variable we think, so are continuing to see the doc for advice.  She seems happy enough 'in herself' so we aren't too concerned (and neither is the doc) but after getting used to her frequency and colour poop last month we're not sure if this is just her new 'normal' or something we should actually be worried about.
