Next week the parliamentary elections are taking place. We're hoping that things will run smoothly, but we've just seen on the news today that there were clashes in Tahrir Square after yesterday's large rally.
One interesting thing about the elections that we've noticed this year is the banners and posters. There were banners and posters last year (November elections 2010) and again they adorn every roundabout and are strung between buildings and billboards. But this year there is a lot more diversity - obviously - and there are so many parties running and so many independents.
In the UK we have three major parties and each of them will have their 'logo' which will appear beside their name on the ballot. In Egypt we're finding that these symbols aren't just a quick reminder of which party is which, but a key identifier people, especially those who are illiterate. So each party (and independent) is trying to find a unique symbol that they can use for the electorate to associate with them, and with so many parties these are getting more and more obscure.
