We have been really pleased with some great baby products we've bought. And there are some others that we really shouldn't have bothered with!
Win: Cheeky Wipes These have been brilliant. They were recommended to us when we were on the NCT course and although it was a bit of an out-lay at first they mean we don't need to buy pack after pack of baby wipes.
Fail: Parasol We didn't get a parasol for the buggy when we first bought it, but then when we started using the buggy out here we realised we needed something more to shade her from the sun. We spent ages looking around to find the universal parasol with the best reviews and then got this one. It is rubbish though! It is really hard to fit to the pram, then really hard to adjust and then of course as you walk around the sun direction changes and so you have to adjust it again! To be honest this is a 'fail' for all parasols we think, not just the one we bought. We're going to try and sort-of snooze-shade thing next time.
Win: Lamaze toys Leila loves her two Lamaze toys (courtesy of Nanny and Granny). At first she just liked looking at the black and white patterns on them and hearing them crinkle, but now she is a bit older she loves grabbing the different bits of them and sticking them in her mouth if possible. They are just really well designed for babies - and so we've ordered another one for her!
Fail: Foam Insert for the bath This was recommended by a friend, but just didn't work out for us. We didn't find it useful for Leila to lie on, or to sit on. We prefer to hold her rather than try and get this to work.
Win: Angelcare movement monitor We had poo-pooed these types of monitors when we saw them in the UK as being for fussy parents. We couldn't see the need to be able to see Leila when she was sleeping or have her every move alerted to us with a beep or flashing light. However when we realised that Leila was one of those babies that just didn't like sleeping on her back we decided we needed to get one for 'peace of mind' when she was sleeping on her front in the moses basket and now her cot.
Win: Ergobaby sling We bought this on the recommendation of a friend and are really glad we went for it. We weren't sure if Leila would be a 'sling baby' as we'd hoped, but it turns out she is which is great for us on the streets of Maadi!
Fail, then Win: Bouncer This wasn't popular with Leila at first and she just cried if we tried to put her in it. At about two months though she began to 'bat' the toys in it and then before 3 months she was starting to hold them a little more and now she totally controls the toys (and the music it plays when they are moved)
