We wanted to take a final wander through Islamic Cairo before flying home for the summer to buy a few things and to browse the stores, so today we headed off on the Metro. Jona_Cairo joined us as he too fancied an explore.
We did the usual wander from Attaba up Mohamed Ali street and then across towards Bab Zuweila, but just before reaching Bab Zuweila we that about a dozen shop fronts had turned into vending points for the Ramadan lanterns that will be displayed in most shops and homes in about two months time. We tried to capture them on the small camera, but some of the photos don't really do them justice.
The sun was beating down and on the way back we stopped in Gad for a drink and air con. Just before getting on the Metro again I found a few books; a Tintin in Arabic (one that I remember reading over and over as a kid) and then two Ladybird books (one about the earth / underground and the other about camping - which I also remember reading avidly before going on Woodcraft camps!)
