We're two Brits who moved in August 2008 to start a new married life, and new jobs, in Cairo.

Sorting the DVDs
Over the Christmas break we decided to do a thorough clear-out of our things in the UK. Our huge DVD collection has been sat in boxes at MVR for the past 5 years, and we aren't going to watch them any time soon. We sorted through the discs to decide which we wanted to keep - everything else (about 50 DVDs) went into a box for charity. Leila wanted to make sure we weren't getting rid of anything that looked interesting, so she spent a while with Alice and Net sorting through the box...

This week we have mainly been.... cold
Baby it's cold outside!
Winter has hit Cairo and it's freezing! This week we have had rain (drizzle, or sometimes even proper rain!) most days and this has brought down the temperature so we are now running the ACs on heat in the apartment. We have tried our best to wrap Leila up when we go out, but aren't really prepared for the weather here (winter jacket, slippers etc all in the UK ready for our return next week).
Poor Leila has caught a cold and so has had a runny nose all week so we have had the 'snot rag' out again (poor girl, what kind of parents does she have??!). At the weekend though she developed a cough to go with her cold. She's not coughing all the time, but it seems to be worse around nap times and there doesn't seem to be much we can do for her until she gets over it.
Knowing our luck she'll get over it this week, but develop a new one as we land in the UK next week.... or she'll have it until the new year!
On a side note - we had our first night out of the year together on Friday for the work xmas do. It was great fun :-) The Pwebbles came over to babysit for us and even though she'd been struggling with sleeping through (having woken up at 12pm. 11pm and 10pm the last three nights), Leila managed to stay down for them. Even more amazing though was that she didn't then wake when we got back. Or wake for a night feed at 3am. But slept through from 7pm til 5.30am!
We didn't even bother touching wood on Saturday night though - and she woke at 8pm in a coughing fit!
